How did Shop-a-paw-looza 2015 end up?
Funny you should ask.
WE RAISED MORE THAN $12,000! (Sorry, but that totally deserved all-caps!) TWELVE THOUSAND DOLLARS for the 600+ cats and dogs who come through our doors each year. That's a new record for us, the most we've ever raised in a single auction, and we couldn't be more excited and grateful to everyone who contributed.
We'd just like to say a sincere thank you to everyone who donated – local, and as far away as Toronto, New York City and Florida. We know that times are hard; we know that donations aren't easy to make, which is why we appreciate them so, so much.
Thanks also to all the people who bid on these items. You guys were AWESOME! So generous! So much FUN! It was like being at a three day party! And thanks to everyone at the Humane Society who worked double-time to make this event a success. So thank you. We mean it. When you snuggle up with your own cat or dog tonight, you can feel proud of yourself for making a difference in the lives of animals who aren't as lucky. Love to you all!
Stay tuned to the Lakeland Humane Society's Facebook page for next year's auction!
TRUCK LINER. Have a pick-up truck? Wait ... that's a silly question ... this is Alberta! Everybody has a pick-up truck! Better question is, do you have a pick-up truck with an unlined bed? Shield Linings & Coatings can help! They can turn the rustiest, most dented box into a thing of beauty; or, they can give your brand new pick-em-up protection that will last longer than the rest of your vehicle. They also coat bumpers, tool boxes - even motorcycles with busted fairings! Even better, Shield Linings & Coatings has donated a truck lining to Shop-a-paw-looza. Now's your chance to give your truck the loving it needs! For more info, visit their shop at 5510 56 St. in Cold Lake, or their FB page https://www.facebook.com/shieldliningcoatings/ or call (780) 812-1264.

I FLIPPIN LOVE YOU BBQ FLIPPER. What absolutely floors us here at the Lakeland Humane Society is the supreme generosity of our supporters. Case in point is Jerry and Meghan who own a custom engraving business called Sweet Pine Hills, in Raymond, Alberta. When they were asked to donate one of their custom BBQ flippers, they not only said yes, they sent us TWO! Along with their “Dad, I flippin love you” flipper, they sent us the more generic “I flippin love you” flipper, because not all dads are the barbecue artists in all families! Doesn’t matter who your sweetie is, if they love the ‘cue, they’ll love this beautiful, heartfelt BBQ flipper under the Christmas tree this year. Thank you very much, Jerry and Meghan! GHOST TOWNS OF ALBERTA POSTER IN WHITE. Edmonton artist Nigel Hood donated THREE of his amazing posters to our Online Auction. Two of them feature the ghost towns of Alberta. “Ghost towns,” he says, “are towns that once had a considerable population, that have since dwindled in numbers causing some or all its businesses to close. The reasons? Either due to the rerouting of a highway, train tracks being pulled, or exhaustion of a natural resource.” Many of Alberta’s ghost towns exist as a result of a number of failed coal mining operations in the area during the early 20th century. This 15” x 22” screen print, in white, pays homage to those towns. It features 80 logos, crests, symbols and word marks created for these fallen towns over the course of 80 days. (A black version of this print will also be sold in this online auction.) The print is unframed, allowing you to frame it the way you want. It will look amazing matted and framed, and hung in an Alberta family room or living room. A perfect gift for anyone interested in the history of our great province. Printed on a white Stonehenge rag by the good people at Hard Pressed, this item sells for $40 in Nigel’s Etsy shop. To see more of Nigel’s work, visit: https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/NigelHood. Thanks Nigel!

It’s like a coaster you can set your drink on without messing up your desk. The cozy is to wrap around your to-go cup to keep it nice and toasty hot. It’s like the cardboard wraps you get from coffee joints, only it’s resuseable and trés cute. For more info, please visit Sew What!?’s Etsy shop: https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/SewWhatAB

SUPERMAN COIN. You gotta love this donation from Jeff Bentley, a super guy who super supports the humane society and is a super expert on all things coins! TWO CAT ART PRINTS. Can you believe it? These gorgeous art prints were donated by Carrie Hawks, an artist from FLORIDA. Here at the Humane Society everyone is blown away that someone from so far away was willing to support a charity in Cold Lake! Her own cats include Anakin, “Prince of Handsomeness,” who was born without back legs or a pelvis. “That doesn’t stop him,” Carrie says. “He is full of love and life! My family and I rescued Anakin and we are giving him the best possible home, love and care.” Carrie posts updates, photos and videos of Anakin on his Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/AnakinTheTwoLeggedCat. Look for Anakin on Twitter, You Tube and his own website: http://AnakinTwoLeggedCat.com. The first print is “Cheshire Cat” from Alice in Wonderland; the second one is “Pharaoh Cat, Egyptian Mau Cat God Bastet.” Carrie enjoys working with a variety of mediums but acrylics are her favourite. She uses a wide variety of vivid colours and she paints her kitties in all the colours of the rainbow. “Nearly all of my cats feature what I like to call ‘feathered eyes’ which have become my trademark. I feel that the eyes of a cat show their independent spirit. I try to capture the cat’s mystical spirit in each of my paintings.” To see more of Carrie’s magical cat world, visit: https://www.etsy.com/shop/tigerpixie. She also sells t-shirts, iPad and phone cases, necklaces, tote bags and more at her Zazzle shop: www.TigerpixieArt.com.
