U.S. DOLLAR BILL SET. This finely mounted and preserved set of American dollar bills (donated by Jeff Bentley) includes a 1957 Silver Certificate with Blue Seal and a 1957 Blue Seal Star Note. Introduced by an Act of Congress in 1878, Silver Certificates were backed by Silver held in the U.S. Treasury and could actually be redeemed for exactly $1 of Silver Bullion until June 24, 1968. Silver Certificate Star Notes are among the most valuable and sought after types of U.S. currency. A Star Note is actually a “replacement note” substituted by the Bureau of Printing and Engraving when a bill is accidentally misprinted or damaged.
